Another week is here and that means there’s a new card to be featured and discounted for the days ahead.

This multicoloured splatter design greeting card was one of the first cards to be launched, having been digitally reproduced from an original painting.

The artwork was a mixed media piece on canvas created in 2017.

It was at this time that I began my art journey, starting with fluid painting, which was the reason for choosing canvas to work on rather than paper, which most artists starting out might be inclined to do..

The physicality of moving paint, coupled with the need for a substrate to hold layers of wet paint is why using canvas made sense. Six years on and I mostly paint on canvas or canvas board as I really enjoy the resistance and give of painting on these surfaces, unlike paper which, unless heavily textured,, feels a bit flat.

Back to this painting and I can remember so clearly mixing up poster paint and acrylics before adding in Pollock style splatters which offered a depth and variety to the piece.

This type of artmaking left me mesmerised, as I would sit and watch the paint shift as I moved it across the canvas with my hands, all while listening to a synthy playlist! (I would later watch back videos of my process and notice I paint intuitively and in time to music without being aware of it).

I learnt a lot during these experiments about different types of paint, their viscosity and how they interact with one another.

Can you tell I’ve been reminiscing about all the paintings from this time? I had a dig around my photo archives and here are some other pieces from that time…

I could talk (or write) for hours about fluid painting and the joy it has brought me, but I think I’ll save that for another blog post.

For now, I hope this card brings you some joy and wonder. Perhaps you will send it to someone celebrating a birthday or a new job.

This abstract design also features as part of a multipack, as you can see in this post. If you like the look of them and would like to support my art, just click ‘Add to Cart’ and enter your details at checkout and I’ll send your order on the next business day.

Thank you!
