Aurora borealis in Scotland

Apologies for my delay in blogging - Long days at work and making up for any time taken off has left me quite tired and unable to muster the energy to create any new work at the moment. I’ve been dabbling with some colourful abstracts which hint at landscape but I’m still sitting with these for the moment to see how I feel about them and how they may evolve over the coming weeks/months. If you have any tips for getting into the flow state when you’re exhausted, let me know!

As you can see from the photos above, we caught the aurora borealis when it made a bold appearance at the end of February. We were staying in the Cairngorm National Park and it was such a wonderful sight (the pink wasn’t as visible to the naked eye as in these photos, taken on my iPhone). We also spotted plenty of shooting stars while we stood out watching the merry dancers. This was my first time seeing the northern lights and I was completely blown away. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to see them again in the future…

We also climbed Mayar and Driesh. I attempted this a few years ago with my friend Annie however weather conditions meant that we didn’t reach the summits. This time, we were rewarded with glimpses of ptarmigans, mountain hares and snow covered hilltops.

I’ve been enjoying making recap reels of my month as a reminder of what I’ve been up to that month, both in and out of the studio. Together with 1 Second Everyday, they serve as a nice way to document life without it feeling too intrusive or that I have my camera (phone) out all the time.

A new painting, aptly named Aurora

…has landed. After having this linen canvas in my possession for maybe three or four years, and having it go through various iterations, I finally settled on this punchy, vibrant landscape. Really good energy in this one, I wonder who will take it home?
